Many forums and blogs are actively reporting the dangers of using registry cleaners. Among the many things they are saying is that using a registry cleaner can result in the total failure of your operating system. Are they correct? Is using a registry cleaner dangerous? The answer to both is yes, using a registry cleaner can cause problems with your operating system.
If using a registry cleaner is dangerous why are so many people using them? Registry cleaners can speed up the operation of your PC, prevent or fix error messages and prevent crashes to name just a few things a good registry cleaner can do. Good ones will have back up and restore programs. The best registry cleaners will also have a start up manager which gives you an easy way to manage what programs load upon startup.
There are many free registry cleaners available on the internet. Some are ok and some are just down right scary to use. I personally do not recommend using a free registry cleaner. If the registry cleaner is outdated or is not compatible with your operating system, then it could cause harm because you are using something that is not intended to run for that system. There is virtually no support for these programs and generally require a higher skill set than the average operator possesses.
Even with your commercial registry cleaners there is danger. If you delete the wrong file your system can crash. If you are going to use a registry cleaner make sure that you create a back up/restore point prior to deleting any files. This way if you were too aggressive in deleting files and your system crashes you can restore your system quickly.
Have I discouraged you from using a registry cleaner? I hope not. I have used and tested several over the years and have not had any problems. Click here for an honest review of what I consider to be the best registry cleaners.
